Meet your trainer

Christian L Harris

3D Adviser & Industry Liaison

Christian L Harris is passionate about fashion design and technology. 

He has occupied several roles in high-end womenswear design and patternmaking, technical trouble shooting, menswear design and academia. He has a BFA in Fashion Marketing and Design from American InterContinental University and an MFA in Fashion Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2015, Christian joined Gerber Technology.

Christian has been published in Schiffer Publishing’s Emerging Fashion Designers 5 and on ELLE.com, Esquire.com, WWD.com and Fashionista.com. His work has been displayed at the Museum of Design Atlanta, Neiman Marcus and industry events in the United States, Hong Kong and France. In his software product management role at Gerber Christian drove new development using agile methodologies, lead product training in over 10 countries worldwide and carried out innovative projects with Twentieth Century Fox and other partners.

In March of 2019 Christian left his role as AccuMark 3D Product Manager to become an independent 3D Adviser and Industry Liaison. In his free time he continues to enjoy exploring garment design and construction.

Course Modules

1. Introduction

Welcome to the PI Apparel training course 'How to Win in 3D - and Rock Your Implementation!'

In this first module, Christian explains what 3D for apparel means, how it can be used to replace 2D and samples, as well as the benefits to consumers.

We also look at some of the major 3D software providers and some of the differences between garments and simulations.

2. Bodies

In this module, we look at avatars and digital bodies. Areas covered include:

  • How bodies are represented in a digital environment
  • Some of the solution providers in the ‘body’ space
  • Parametric bodies
  • Digital dress forms
  • Body scanning

3. Fabrics

In this module, we look at cloth in the virtual world. Areas covered include:

  • Fabrics in the physical vs the virtual world
  • Simulation engines
  • Some of the material solution providers
  • Challenges and benefits of fabrics in the digital space

4. 3D for Design

In this module, we look using 3D as the design tool - taking the design team from illustrations to simulations.

Areas covered include:

  • How to transition your team into a 3D environment
  • The benefits of migrating from 2D to 3D design
  • How to phase the transition from 2D to 3D
  • The language gap

5. 3D for Fit

In this module we look at the differences inherent in fit in the virtual vs physical environments.

Areas covered include:

  • Fitting a simulation
  • Tools for fit
  • Fitting on an avatar

6. Understanding your Organization

In this module we look at the human aspects of starting a 3D implementation, and the importance of identifying your 3D champions.

Areas covered include:

  • Who's doing what?
  • Who can do what?
  • How do your factories and manufacturers play their part in the process?
  • Finding your champions

7. Understanding Solutions

In this module we look at how to evaluate and pick the right software solutions for your business.

Areas covered include:

  • Picking the right solution(s)
  • Getting the most out of a product demo
  • A look at the number of different options available

8. Success Factors

Success factors that will help you rock your implementation!
